Growing up in a conservative household, it is not new to have your family see the world in such a dim light.
Other races are seen as dirty, other gender identities are seen as a joke, and dictatorship is right.
Believing all of their beliefs was easy, but getting out of it was challenging.
It was like rebelling.
But as I grew, I noticed their mistakes and tried to make anew.
It took plenty of time to make them understand, one was easy, while the other was adamant.
My grandmother, the one who never knew. Once she found out, she realized that it was something she couldn’t undo.
Aware of where her granddaughter stands, she took her time to make amends.
The sentence “Grandma, I’m ace” took her by surprise, it took three times for her to empathize.
As time went by, she continued to learn, and newfound respect was earned.
She continued to love me, her granddaughter. I’m so proud to call her my grandmother.
